Our Story

Following are the projects we have been able to complete thanks to our volunteers and sponsors.

 

2024 Projects

Thank you to 2024 sponsors Lowe’s (materials), Kohler Co. Daniels Home (Elderly)

Returned to this home to install a lavatory faucet, kitchen faucet, air gap for the kitchen dishwasher, secure a kitchen cabinet and install two new toilets. Thank you to Kohler Company and Kohler retirees for providing products and completing the work on this home.

Ertel Home (Elderly)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together return to this home to install a new kitchen sink faucet, install new basement steps, and install a new backyard light. Thank you to Lowe’s and the Kohler Co. for providing the materials.

Brill Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together returned to this home to install GFCI protected outlets on both sides of the kitchen sink. Thank you to Lowe’s for providing the outlets.

Bricks Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together installed a new kitchen faucet, a handrail on steps from the house to a breezeway, and a new lever style door knob from the breezeway to the garage to make it easier to open when carrying items from the garage to the house. Thank you to Kohler Co. & Lowe’s for providing the materials.

Baljic Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers from Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls repaired a rain gutter leak, removed old concrete steps that were cracked and sinking then replaced them with new wooden steps and a steel handrail. Thank you to Lowe's for providing materials. Also thank you to Buyze Masonry LLC for breaking up and removing the concrete steps.

Baumgartner Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers installed a new door jam, door, and storm door leading from the home to the deck. Funds from some of the grants mentioned above were used to purchase materials and the work was done by Kohler Company retirees.

Bilgien Home (Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together installed a new backyard light and rebuilt an awning support so the awning would not limit the door from being opened and closed. They also repaired a deck which was becoming a safety issue by refastening a support joist and replacing 6 rotten deck boards. Thank you to Lowe’s for providing the materials.

Tik-Davis Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

he homeowner had acquired a new kitchen sink but did not have the skill to install it. Volunteers installed the sink as well as a new faucet. Thank you to retired Kohler Co. employees.

Sbarbaro Home (Veteran & Elderly)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together replaced facia on the front porch, replaced 2 windows on the main floor, and installed a new threshold for the back door. Thank you to Lowe's for providing the materials for this project.

 Hoover Home (Health Issues)

Kohler Company employees and retirees volunteered to improve the home of a Health Issues person now confined to a wheelchair. Work that was completed included installing a new toilet with bidet seat with a new GFCI protected outlet, scraped and painted 13 wooden frame storm windows, install a new front door threshold to make it easier to enter and exit the house in a wheelchair, replaced a rusted garage roof overhang support, landscaping done to shed water away from the house wall so it would not run into the basement, and repair of one storm window that fell apart due to a rotted lower rail. Thank you to Kohler Company for providing the toilet and bidet seat as well as allowing employees time to volunteer.

Wolff Home (Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together installed a basement handrail, installed a combination smoke and CO detector, sealed a long crack in concrete steps to prevent water entry & freezing, replaced three 4X4 fence posts that had rotted off, replaced the threshold at the back door and installed a grab bar on the front door frame for safer entry and exit. Thank you to Lowe's for providing the materials for this project.

Dowe Home (Elderly & Health Issues, spouse of veteran)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together built a 1/2 step at the front door to make entry and exit easier, installed a handrail from house to the sidewalk, secured loose rain gutters, and installed CO detectors in the basement and main floor. Funds from some of the grants mentioned above were used to purchase materials. More work will be done in 2025.

Ramos Home (Low Income)

Rebuilding Together board members and other volunteers installed a new front storm door, replaced 4 windows including new insulation and trim, installed GFCI outlets in the kitchen, installed a CO detector in the basement, and painted exterior trim. Thank you to Lowe's for providing the materials for this project.

Fischer Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers from Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls built a deck and ramp to provide safe access from the front door, installed new hookups and moved the washer and dryer from the basement to the main floor, installed new GFCI outlets, installed new smoke and CO detectors, replaced a non-functioning bathroom fan, cleaned mildew from the bathroom walls and ceiling and then painted them. Thank you to Lowe's for materials and to Saint Paul Lutheran Church Sheboygan Falls for providing financial support and volunteers.

Berg Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together installed CO detectors in the basement and main floor.

Sherwin Home (Elderly)

Rebuilding Together connected with Oostburg Gutter to replace rain gutters over back door and porch. Thank you to them for providing free materials and labor.

Schwaller Home (Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together caulked windows, installed GFCI outlets in kitchen and laundry room, installed new weather stripping and door sweep for the back door and garage service door. Thank you to Lowe's for providing the materials for this project.

Wagner Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together installed GFCI outlets in the kitchen and bathroom. More work will be done in 2025.

Foy Home (Elderly & Health Issues)

This home had significant damage from water leaks. Volunteers from Rebuilding Together tore out old flooring and subfloor then replaced with new insulation and flooring material. Other tasks completed included fixing a leak in the crawl space under the bathroom floor, installing a new toilet, installing a combination smoke and CO detector, fixing kitchen faucet leak, installing new deck stair tread boards and grip tape, and filling a gap in the backdoor jamb with foam insulation. Funds from some of the grants mentioned above were used to purchase materials.

Buteyn Home (Health Issues)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together installed a GFCI outlet in the bathroom and a new deadbolt. More work will be done in 2025.

 

2023 Projects

Thank you to 2023 sponsors Lowe’s, St Paul Lutheran Church Sheboygan Falls, Johnsonville Community Relations, Taylor Trucking, Alliant Foundation, First Congregational Church Sheboygan, and Kohler Co.

Valand Home

Ms. Valand is disabled with eye site and mobility problems.  Her income is limited so she has not been able to keep up with home repairs. With the help of a grant from Lowe’s for materials plus funding and volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran Church (stpaulfalls.com) Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County completed the following.

- Replaced 2 windows that no longer functioned.

- Installed GFCI outlets in the kitchen and CO2 detector.

- Installed range hood and wash kitchen walls around the stove.

- Replaced the kitchen faucet (donated by Kohler Co.) and drain piping.

- Replaced damaged downspouts.

- Completed various projects in the yard.

- Scraped and painted walls and ceiling in the bathroom.

- Repaired damaged woodwork.

- Replaced missing and damaged weather seals.

Bricks Home

With materials donated by Lowe's, Kohler Co. volunteers patched a leaking skylight, painted the garage, replaced a leaking faucet donated by Kohler Co., and repaired a fence.

Preuss Home

Ms. Preuss, an Air Force veteran, was living in a home that was becoming unsafe. With concrete donated by Tailor Trucking, volunteers from Kohler Co. and retirees replaced a Lannon stone walkway with concrete and backfilled around the concrete. The walkway was uneven and difficult for Ms. Preuss to navigate. Gutter guards were also installed with materials donated by Lowe’s.

James Home

With materials donated by Lowe’s, Ice Age Trail volunteers completed the following:

- Installed a grab bar in the bathroom.

- Replaced damaged wood in a walkway to the garage.

- Installed a stair rail to the basement.

- Replaced stair treads and installed a railing on the back stairs.

Graff Home

Mr. Graff is disabled and unable to maintain his home. With materials donated by Lowe's and volunteers from Saint Paul Lutheran Church Rebuilding Together Sheboygan county was able to complete the following:

- Cleaned, added splash guarding, and replaced toilet in main bathroom.

- Replaced the toilet ring in the second bathroom.

- Installed wains coating in the hallway to protect against wheelchair damage.

- Installed new flooring in the front entrance.

- Re-sloped the wheelchair ramp at the back of the house to end at ground level.

- Installed a new range hood and clean walls.

- Installed a new kitchen faucet donated by Kohler Co.

- Ground off a tripping hazard on concrete walks.

- Cleaned up the yard and slopped the ground away from the house.

Baumgartner Home

With materials donated by Lowe’s, volunteers from Ice Age Trail completed the following:

- Replaced rotting deck boards and rebuilt stairs.

- Replaced storm door screen.

- Repaired door jamb.

Bilgien Home

With materials donated by Lowe's Rebuilding Together volunteers completed the following:

- Installed a new back door and replaced damaged door jamb, threshold, and trim.

- Replaced 2 damaged deck boards.

- Installed a new dead bolt.

- Installed a new back yard light.

Ertel Home

The weekend of November 4th our Board of Director's came together for a project day for one of our own.  One of our new board members, who originally applied for assistance, was so grateful to have us help her. The team replaced Kitchen and Bathroom faucets, replaced a few windows, painted, did some electrical work, trimmed bushes, installed handrails, stabilized basement beams, and replaced basement stairs.  It was an amazing day to help make this house safe while getting to know each other a little more.  Teamwork at its best! Thank you to Lowe’s for donating the materials.

Tik-Davis Home

With materials donated by Lowe's Rebuilding Together volunteers installed 1/2 height step at the front door, installed a grab bar at the front door, installed a sink, and installed a deck stair handrail.

Shannon Home

Ms. Shannon, an older, single lady needed numerous repairs to her home.  With materials provided by Lowe’s, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County volunteers completed the following:

- Installed grab bars.

- Replaced rotting portions of wheelchair ramp.

- Sealed leaks in gutter over front entrance.

- Fixed toilet.

Brill Home

With materials donated by Lowe's and Kohler co. Rebuilding Together volunteers completed the following:

- Hired a plumber to repair failed drainage piping under the sink and in a utility room. He also augured out the drainage lines.

- Replaced kitchen hot water heater.

- Patched and painted Bathroom drywall.

- Installed a new vanity and light.

- Installed a new toilet.

- Installed GFCI outlets.

2022 Projects

Sheeran Home

Mr Sheeran is a veteran with cancer that limits his ability to complete repair projects on his own.  Using a grant from Lowes for materials Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County volunteers completed several window replacements during the year:

- Replaced bathroom window.

- Replaced kitchen window and 2 bedroom windows.

- Replaced 2 dining room windows with 1 DH window.

Ford Home

Ms Ford, a single mother with a nearly totally disabled daughter, did not have a garage so she would transfer her daughter from her vehicle to a wheelchair outside, sometimes in inclement weather.  With the help of a grant from Lowes for materials plus funding and volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran Church (stpaulfalls.com) Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County converted a 4-season room into a garage including:

- Removing and rebuilding one outside wall to accommodate doorways.

- Installation of a garage door and 40-inch handicap service door.

- Install 40-inch fire-rated door between house and garage.

- Remove existing wall coverings and install fire rated drywall on common walls between house and garage.

 

Jarvey Home

Both the front and rear entry doors of the Jarvey family home were non-insulated wood doors.  The front door had cracks that allowed moisture inside the home to escape and freeze on the outside of the door.  With grant money from Lowes, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to replace both doors.

Higgins Home

Ms Higgins, an older, single lady need some minor fixes to her home we worked on in 2019.  Rebuilding Together Sheboygan volunteers fixed a sticking screen door and installed a smoke alarm.

Preuss Home

Ms Preuss, an elderly lady and an Air Force veteran, was living in a home that was becoming unsafe.  The roof leaked, the well water was not safe to drink and there were animals living in the crawl space under her home.  We were able to get a veteran’s grant from Lowes and a second veteran’s grant from Fortune Brands.  With these grants and a discounted roofing bid from Wigg Brothers Construction, volunteers from Kohler, Lowes and Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County were able to complete the following.

- Hire a contractor to reroof the home and replace the chimney cap.

- Hired contractor to test well water (high bacteria), then chlorinate, flush and retest well system (no bacteria).

- Rebuilt crawl space surround, replaced cover door & header.

- Built and installed new stair for crawl space.

- Replaced rotten siding, rotten stud sections, and prime paint.

- Replaced inner crawl space door.

- Replaced 2 DH bedroom windows.

- Painted exterior crawl space surfaces, new siding and 1 front door.

- Raked and cleaned up yard.

- Cleaned out eave troughs.

- Reset slate rock pavers.

Shannon Home

Ms Shannon, an older, single lady need numerous repairs to her home.  With materials provided by Lowes, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County volunteers completed the following:

- Replaced battery CO detector located in kitchen.

- Installed GFCI kitchen outlets.

- Replaced faulty bedroom light switch.

- Replace range hood.

- Corrected bathroom wiring problems.

- Installed new vanity light.

- Installed new NG hot water heater.

- Replaced broken kitchen window.

- Raked & hauled-off leaves.

2021 Projects

Projects resumed in 2021 but not on the normal project day, the last Saturday in April.  Due to COVID-19 the projects were spread during the year.

Daniels Home

A project carried over from 2020 was the home of an older, single lady whose husband died. With the help of volunteers from Kohler retires and the UAW, and a grant for materials from Lowes @lowes, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to complete the following:

- Install eight new energy efficient windows.

- Install a new entry door and new locks.

- Replace non-functioning ceiling fans.

- Replace broken water heater.

 

Lundskow Home

Ms Lundskow, an elderly lady, contacted Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County about needed repairs to her home.  Although we didn’t have the resources to take care of all the repairs, there was a significant safety issue that needed to be addressed right away.  An electrician was hired to install a new outlet so that an extension cord running under carpet could be eliminated.

Sessions Home

Ms Sessions, an older lady, was no longer able to navigate the steps into her home due to a disability in one of her legs.  With the help of volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran Church, food provided by Miejer, and a grant from Lowes for materials, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to build a new ramp so she could get in and out of her home.

 

Ford Home

Ms Ford is a single mother with a nearly totally disabled daughter.  With the help of volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran Church and a grant from Lowes for materials, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to address issues that were causing water to come through the basement walls. 

- New gutters and flashing were installed to route rainwater away from the house.

- Cracks in the foundation and concrete sidewalk surrounding the back of the house were repaired.

 

2020 Projects

Thank you to 2020 sponsors Wigg Brothers Construction, Lowes Corporation, Kohler Company, and St Paul Lutheran Church Sheboygan Falls.

Due to COVID-19 Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was forced to cancel the projects that had been planned for April.  We were able to complete two projects later in the year and procure materials for two other projects that were carried into 2021.

Henning Home

Mr and Mrs Henning, an elderly couple, were afraid of falling while getting in and out of their cast iron bathtub.  With the help of volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran Church and a donation of the shower from Kohler Company, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to replace the tub with a walk-in shower and installed several grab bars for them to use getting in and out as well as while using the shower.  Drywall and trim around the shower were also installed with materials provided by Lowes Corporation.

Lopez Home

With no cost labor provided by Wigg Brothers Construction and materials from Kohler Company and Lowes Corporation, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to complete the following:

- Finished installing windows that had been started by the homeowner.

- Installed insulation.

- Alleviated potential mold problems by replacing the kitchen counter and installing a new Kohler kitchen sink.

2019 Projects

Thank you to 2019 sponsors Carpenters Local 731, Sheboygan Rotary, Kohler UAW 833, Kohler Company, Lowes Corporation, St Paul Lutheran Church Sheboygan Falls and United Way.

Lopez Home

Ms Gutierrez-Lopez, a single mother, was needing to better seal up her home.  With the help of funding and volunteers from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to complete the following:

- Replaced several old single pane windows with new energy efficient windows.

- Replaced broken windows in the basement with glass block windows.

- Installed new exterior and storm doors.

- Installed a new exterior cellar door and repaired the stairs.

- Replaced the bathroom toilet and door.

- Replaced fixtures in the tub / shower and put new caulk on all seams.

- Replaced the kitchen sink donated by Kohler Company.

Demiri Home

The Demiri Family, a young Greek family, needed repairs to the lower level of their two story home.  With the help of volunteers from the Kohler UAW, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to complete the following:

- Replaced several old single pane windows with new energy efficient windows.

- Replaced broken windows in the basement with glass block windows.

- Installed a new storm door.

- Installed a new vanity cabinet and sink.

Higgins Home

Ms Higgins, an older, single lady living in a two story home, needed repairs to several areas of her home.  With the help of volunteers from the Carpenters Union and Sheboygan Rotary, Rebuilding Together Sheboygan County was able to complete the following:

- Replaced and refinished interior doors.

- Scraped and painted the iron railing on the upstairs porch.

- Replaced stairs to the basement.

- Installed a new toilet and shelves in the bathroom.

- Installed new fire alarms.

- Installed a storm door for the rear entrance.

Merget Home

Ms Merget, an elderly lady, could no longer get in and out of her home because of the need to use a  walker or wheel chair combined with tall, steep stairs at both the front and back of her home.  Rebuilding Together combined with United Way and Love INC of Sheboygan County to build a ramp.  Materials were provided by donations from United Way Day of Caring and Lowes Corporation.  Sargento employees came for the Day of Caring to start the project which was then finished by volunteers from Love INC Sheboygan County.
